Hello...
We are back in Costa Rica after a nice visit with our families, friends and supporters. During our mandatory exit from the country we visited three states SC, NC, and WV. It seemed like everywhere we went people were having babies, adding to their families. It was great fun getting to know all their new faces. If we missed you on this trip we hope we´ll catch you on the next one.
The rain has started here and probably will not stop for a couple months. In the last five days I would estimate that we have received about twelve inches, which is too many centimeters to count.
We hit the ground running and have been working at the camp, tutoring, and catching up on all the events of the three weeks that we were away. The summer crop of VIM teams has begun to arrive, I think there will be 12 weeklong teams just in the months of June and July. We are slated to join them working in the North near the border and closer to the camp on projects such as church building, bible studies, well digging-drilling, and medical-vision missions. We will be translating, swinging hammers and perhaps even working with doctors and patients.
We imagine this time period will be substantually different from our routine to date, as we will be traveling with some of the teams and away from the camp more often as well as participating in mission work in different aspects.
Brooke and I have additionally made contact with EMI, an engineering and architecture mission, located in CR where we may work as architects in the mission field. They work throughout Central America and we could potentially produce plans for projects in multiple countries, should this door open to us.
To further add to our repsonsibilities, Brooke just this morning spoke with a teacher at the local elemnetary school about teaching English to 4th through 6th graders. It is something at which I think that she would excel and we are looking forward to more news on this front.
Our time seems to be more and more full with projects and plans, we pray each day that they are God´s plans for us and we appreciate all your prayers and support. More soon. Love Brett and Brooke

The main focus of the woodworking portion of our mission is to complete projects for local churches, their members, and people in our community. The aspiration of long term training of locals has not yet been realized.
Churches buildings in Costa Rica have recently been subject to additions to and a more strict adherence to the building code. To help with renovating existing campuses, we have undertaken architectural surveys and drawn plans of several church buildings in the Northern Zone. These surveys can then be utilized in renovations and modifications, to avoid closure by the Ministry of Health.
Several days a week, we work with middle and high school students to assist them in remedial learning and all current subject matter. This work has been realized in a number of communities around Ciudad Quesada. We are also assisting students in a home schooling program developed by the Minstry of Education, known as "Maestro en Casa." The program was designed to facilitate the advancement of people who want to persue their education from home.
We a variable number of classes at any one time. Brooke´s one-on-one classes with students in our community have been especially effective. We have also been teaching a larger class in the church in Ciudad Quesada. We have found that the setting of the English class has allowed us to form close relationships with the residents in our community.
We are youth diresctors of our local church in Santa Rosa de la Palmera, The youth are a group of middle and high school students. On Sunday mornings during the regular service we meet with them to read the Bible, discuss scripture and pray. Saturday evenings we try to combine fun activities and games with scripture lessons and group discussions. We focus on how to apply biblical lessons to their everyday lives. The group usually consists of 8 to 12 participants.

Using woodworking, architecture, tutoring, english classes, youth work, and direct involvement in our community, we pray we will bear fruit for the Kingdom.

SEWING
Brooke led two cross stitch courses, one with the help of a local woman, Doña Teresa, and another on her own. During the first class, Doña Teresa taught the sewing portion, while Brooke led a Bible Study. Twenty women were attending by the time the course ended. Since then Brooke has trained a small group of women, so they can in turn teach others in the community of Linda Vista.
